Hoboken, Jersey City and Newark, New Jersey

Many people believe that New York is the greatest city in the world. It is easy to understand why, but it is important to understand that there is more to the business world than what resides on that island.

Just across the Hudson River from Manhattan is an area that is becoming a larger beacon for people and companies. This includes several major cities including Hoboken, Jersey CIty and Newark. These three cities have a combined population of 575,742 and these are starting to become highly sought after locations.

There are even reports that are actively calling for New Yorkers to move from the City across the river to experience what the other side has. There are a number of reasons given, which includes:

Plenty of cheaper rental real estate and luxury condos
Easy transportation to New York with the PATH train, bus lines and ferries, as well as between the cities themselves
Cheaper cabs, gas and cigarettes
Lower crime rate per square mile than Brooklyn
Aside from that, there are also Special Improvement Districts all over Jersey City that have the ultimate goal to revitalize the area, invest in businesses and throw special events to bring the area closer together. A number of major companies already make areas like Jersey City their home with an office. These include Goldman Sachs, Barclays and PrinceWaterhouseCoopers.

Newark is also the home of the Prudential Center, where the New Jersey Devils NHL team plays and boasts the title of being the third-largest insurance center in the U.S. behind Hartford and New York City. Companies including Panasonic North American, IDT Corporation, New Jersey Transit, Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey are headquartered there.

Hoboken boasts some major businesses itself including the Macy’s Parade Studio and publisher John Wiley & Sons. It is also the birthplace of baseball, having the first recorded game in 1846.

There are also several major colleges in the area including the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Rutgers–Newark, Seton Hall University School of Law and the Stevens Institute of Technology.
